Publisher of Clinician’s Brief Announces Director of New Product Development

Newest team member finds the sweet spot between medicine and technology

TULSA, OKLAHOMA—Readers of Clinician’s BriefVeterinary Team Brief, and Plumb’s Therapeutics Brief, published by Brief Media, will soon benefit from the unique skills of a veterinarian who combines his love of veterinary medicine with a passion for finding ways to make the professional lives of veterinarians more organized and efficient.

Caleb Frankel, VMD, has joined the Brief Media team as Director of New Product Development. For the past year, Dr. Frankel has worked with Brief Media and Dr. Donald Plumb to help develop Plumb’s Veterinary Drugs, which launches in January 2015 as the official digital version of Plumb’s Veterinary Drug Handbook

“My goal is to make sure Plumb’s Veterinary Drugs is the best digital reference available to veterinarians,” he said. At the same time, Dr. Frankel notes that Plumb’s Veterinary Drugs is “just the tip of the iceberg” at Brief Media and that other practical yet innovative products are in development.

While his mission of applying technology to transform the veterinary profession propelled him to make the difficult decision to reduce his time practicing, Dr. Frankel remains very committed to continuing his work as an emergency practitioner at the 50-doctor Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center in Greater Philadelphia.

“Caleb is both an extraordinary practicing veterinarian and an intuitive, innovative thinker. He’s also a wonderful person,” notes Clinician’s Brief and Plumb’s Therapeutics BriefEditor, Indu Mani, DVM, ScD. “We are thrilled to harness his abundant intellectual and practical skills to implement tools that will enhance veterinary practice excellence.”

Dr. Frankel will also continue as “head techy” of VMD Technology, a website and blogging community he founded for veterinary technophiles in 2013.

Dr. Frankel is a graduate of University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. He completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Coral Springs Animal Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and focused his training to include emergency and critical care before returning to practice in the Philadelphia area. He has been involved in a number of veterinary technology initiatives, including serving on veterinary software advisory boards.

When he’s not practicing medicine or helping to develop point-of-care tools for veterinarians, Dr. Frankel has a busy home life that includes his wife Anne, a professor in the College of Public Health at Temple University, twin sons Theo and Ezra, and twin pets Benjamin Franklin and Voodoo. In addition to traveling and enjoying live music, he is an avid collector of bow ties.
