Editorial Associate, Plumb’s
To achieve success as an Editorial Associate at Brief Media, the incumbent must be curious and eager to take on new challenges. The Editorial Associate is offered agency not often provided to an editorial assistant but still receives supervision and training to progress to an advanced editorial position.
The Editorial Associate will be a detail-oriented self-starter with excellent time-management, organization, and editing skills. The incumbent will play an integral role in content production, primarily working alongside the Managing Editor and Associate Editor to ensure timely processing of content, facilitate medical and author reviews, and assist with copy editing and other tasks as needed.
This individual will be expected to develop a firm familiarity with all content produced under the Plumb’s brand and will be expected to learn all the ins and outs of AMA style.
Provide consistent and reliable editorial tracking for the content team, including:
Tracking of the various stages of production for monographs
Meet with Plumb’s veterinary officers and content leadership on a regular basis to discuss manuscripts’ status and short- and long-term tasks
Preparing files for distribution to editors and authors as necessary
Serve as primary production editor for up to 4-6 monographs per month; this will include copy editing and sharing materials with authors and editors
Assist with multiple tasks in production of Plumb’s as production editor:
Proofread for grammar, style, and typo correction
Work closely with staff veterinarians and editors to receive, incorporate, and double-check revisions
Work closely with internal and external veterinarians and pharmacists
Support team with production of related client-facing materials
Upload materials, including preparations for taxonomy/tagging
Support external contributors (ie, authors, reviewers) by providing essential materials and resources as directed by internal stakeholders
Execute other tasks as assigned by content leadership
Contribute to a creative, respectful, and proactive work culture
BA or BS in related field (eg, English, Journalism, Animal Science)
Medical editing experience a plus but not required
High level of editing capability with a desire for ongoing development
Strong time-management skills
Able to be proactive in identifying and responding to potential challenges
Excellent people skills and ability to work with internal and external parties both in-person and remote
Ever-increasing attention to detail, with a sharp eye for consistency
Ability to work in deadline-driven environment and adapt to changing deadlines or processes
