The content team at Brief Media, a provider of veterinary solutions, seeks to add an Editorial Assistant to its growing team. This role is essential to timely production of resources for veterinary professionals and to the respectful support of our authors.
To be successful as an Editorial Assistant at Brief Media, the incumbent must be curious and ready to learn as much as possible. The Editorial Assistant will be a detail-oriented self-starter with excellent time-management, organization, and editing skills. The incumbent will play an integral role in content production, primarily working alongside the Managing Editor and Associate Editor to ensure timely processing of content (including articles, research reviews, monographs, and front and back matter), facilitate medical and author reviews, and assist with copy editing and other tasks as needed. This individual will be expected to develop a firm familiarity with Clinician’s Brief, Plumb’s Veterinary Drugs, and AMA style.
Provide daily editorial and administrative support for the content team, including:
Tracking of the various stages of production for articles and monographs
Preparing files for distribution to editors, authors, and reviewers (internal and external)
Serve as the editor for 1-2 items of content per month; this may include copy editing and sharing materials with authors and editors
Assist with various tasks in production of Clinician’s Brief and Plumb’s Veterinary Drugs:
Proofreading for grammar, style, and typo correction
Applying and checking revisions as directed by multiple team members
Reading and reviewing front and back matter
Work closely with staff veterinarians
Work closely with external veterinarians and pharmacists
Assist with ad hoc marketing and sales materials
Edit short reviews of conference proceedings
Support the team in uploading finalized materials
Perform tasks in execution of monthly Digital Edition of Clinician’s Brief
Conduct QA checks of content as needed
Assist in file management and author support for commissions and submissions; experience with Editorial Manager a plus
Execute other tasks as assigned by content leadership
Contribute to a creative, respectful, and proactive work culture
BA or BS in related field (eg, English, Journalism, Animal Science)
High potential for editing abilities with a fierce desire for ongoing development
Excellent people skills and ability to work with internal and external parties both in-person and remote
Ever-increasing attention to detail, with a sharp eye for consistency
Ability to work in deadline-driven environment and adapt to changing deadlines or processes
