The content team at Brief Media, a provider of veterinary solutions, seeks to add an Editorial Assistant to its growing team. This role is essential to timely production of resources for veterinary professionals and to the respectful support of our authors.
To be successful as an Editorial Assistant at Brief Media, the incumbent must be curious and ready to learn as much as possible. The Editorial Assistant will be a detail-oriented self-starter with excellent time-management, organization, and editing skills. The incumbent will play an integral role in content production, working alongside multiple members of the content team to ensure timely processing of content (including articles, research reviews, monographs, and pet owner materials), facilitate medical and author reviews, and assist with copy editing and other tasks as needed. Chief among all responsibilities will be the coordination of the peer-review process for core Brief Media brands: Clinician’s Brief and Plumb’s.
Coordinate the peer-review process for Clinician’s Brief and Plumb’s content
Work with stakeholders on the selection of peer reviewers
Invite and communicate with peer reviewers via email and Editorial Manager
Track reviewer submissions and deadlines
Ensure reviewers are added to a payment log
Document and save reviewer decisions via a host of different communication channels (ie, ShareFile, Basecamp, Google Sheets)
Provide daily editorial and administrative support for the content team, chiefly the tracking of the various stages of production for articles and monographs.
Preparing files for distribution to editors, authors, and reviewers (internal and external).
Occasionally serve as an editor; this may include copy editing and sharing materials with authors and editors
Assist with various tasks in production of Clinician’s Brief and Plumb’s:
Communications with authors, including navigation of content processes and systems (eg, Editorial Manager)
Tracking team progress in a production grid
Delivering materials to authors and reviewers
Work closely with staff veterinarians
Assist with ad hoc content production needs
Support the team in uploading finalized materials
Conduct QA checks of content as needed
Contribute to a creative, respectful, and proactive work culture
BA or BS in related field (eg, English, Journalism, Animal Science)
High potential for editing abilities with a fierce desire for ongoing development
Excellent people skills and ability to work with internal and external parties both in-person and remote
Ever-increasing attention to detail, with a sharp eye for consistency
Ability to work in deadline-driven environment and adapt to changing deadlines or processes
