The content team at Brief Media, a provider of veterinary solutions, seeks to add an Assistant Editor to its growing team. This role is vital to timely and accurate production of digital and print resources for veterinary professionals.
To achieve success as an Assistant Editor at Brief Media, the incumbent must be curious and eager to take on new challenges. The Assistant Editor will be a detail-oriented self-starter with excellent time-management, organization, and editing skills. The incumbent will play an integral role in content production, primarily working alongside the Managing Editor and Associate Editor to ensure timely processing of content (including articles, research reviews, monographs, and front and back matter), facilitate medical and author reviews, and assist with copy editing and other tasks as needed. This individual will be expected to develop a firm familiarity with Clinician’s Brief, Plumb’s Veterinary Drugs, and AMA style.
Serve as primary production editor for 3-5 articles or monographs per month; this will include copy editing and sharing materials with authors and editors
Provide feedback on final copy and layout, always with the intent for betterment
Write and facilitate production process for front and back matter
Adopt best practices in producing Clinician’s Brief and Plumb’s Veterinary Drugs content
Work closely with staff veterinarians to receive and incorporate revisions
Work closely with external veterinarians and pharmacists to review and update content
Once copy is ready, upload materials, including preparations for taxonomy/tagging
Assist with ad hoc marketing and sales materials
Become fluent in the ins and outs of content production, including communication with our printer and review of impositions/book maps
Assist in file management and author support for commissions and submissions; experience with Editorial Manager a plus
Execute other tasks as assigned by content leadership
Support revenue-driven materials (eg, custom media) as directed
Contribute to a creative, respectful, and proactive work culture
BA or BS in related field (eg, English, Journalism, Animal Science)
Medical editing experience a plus but not required
High level of editing capability with a desire for ongoing development
Strong time-management skills
Able to be proactive in identifying and responding to potential challenges
Excellent people skills and ability to work with internal and external parties both in-person and remote
Ever-increasing attention to detail, with a sharp eye for consistency
Ability to work in deadline-driven environment and adapt to changing deadlines or processes
